Robert J. Darrah founded Darrah Electric Company in 1960 as a manufacturer of high quality DC Power
supplies for the plating and metal finishing industries.
Over the years Darrah has diversified in three primary areas of focus: Manufacturing, Distribution
and Service.
Manufacturing
As a manufacturer
of DC Power supplies, Darrah designs and builds products for a variety of industries. Most products
are custom designed and built to meet customer's specifications or applications. Darrah cooling capabilities
include air, water and oil cooled designs. DC outputs range in size from 0 to 1000 volts and up to
50,000 amps in power.
Many of Darrah's manufactured power supplies are designed for OEM accounts. These power supplies are
engineered and assembled to meet specific customer needs. These models are often labeled with the OEM
nameplate and sold as part of a system or contract. Darrah Electric is capable of taking responsibility
for all engineering, drawings, specifications and approvals.
To support manufacturing, Darrah Electric has an engineering staff with a combined experience of over
75 years of power supply design and applications.
Darrah Electric designs and manufactures our own power transformers. Other capabilities include a welding
and painting department for enclosures.
Darrah assembly personnel for manufacturing all have a minimum of two years of Electronic Technical
degrees. Assembly workers are capable of layouts, assembly and wiring.
Darrah manufactured products are sold and distributed worldwide by sales forces within the various
OEM accounts as well as a network of representatives in major markets in North and South America.
Darrah Distribution
In April of 1976 Darrah Electric
first signed a contract to become a distributor of power semiconductor products. Our first product
line was the FMC Semiconductor Division, later being absorbed by Siemens and now a division of Microsemi.
Since that time, Darrah Electric has signed distributor agreements with Powerex Incorporated, IXYS
Corporation, Dynex Semiconductor, ABB Semiconductor, Aavid Thermalloy, Crydom Corporation and ABB Controls.
Darrah has concentrated our distribution efforts on the products we know best, power semiconductors.
Our experience with using many of the products ourselves has allowed us to offer practical and economical
solutions to our customers.
As a distributor with a narrow line of products, inside technical support and a large inventory, Darrah
has become a major asset to the lines that we represent.
In addition, Darrah has a large in house value added assembly area. Power semiconductor stack assemblies
are built in both air and liquid cooled designs. Products are supplied per Darrah engineered drawings
or per customer supplied specifications.
Darrah's Quality Control Department trains and monitors production personnel. Certifications, drawings
and test reports are supplied with the finished product.
To further enhance Darrah's assembly capabilities, stacks are 100% tested to customers specifications.
Darrah distributor products are sold through a staff of three inside customer service personnel, two
direct outside sales people and six representatives located throughout the United States.
